A Bloody Conflict

The French had helped the United States during the American Revolution and the U.S. believed they owed them something in return. They decided to help France preserve their freedom. The British and French commanders wanted to combine the U.S. troops with their troops. There was just one problem. U.S. generals did not agree with that decision. The Americans would be their own army. Only one infantry would be given to the French and this infantry consisted of African Americans only.
